David Packard Corenswet is an American actor. In 2018, he started guest-starring on television shows, such as House of Cards. David Corenswet graduated from the Juilliard School of Music in 2016. Ryan Murphy created the Netflix shows The Politician and Hollywood, both of which he played in lead roles. Since then, he has starred in Look Both Ways, Pearl, and the HBO miniseries We Own This City.

Corenswet grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Before becoming a lawyer, John Corenswet acted on stage in New York City for several years, having been born into a prominent Jewish family in New Orleans. He also has a mother who is a lawyer. Amy, his older sister is also a lawyer.

Edward Packard is Corenswet’s maternal grandfather. He created the Choose Your Adventure concept and authored more than fifty books.

Corenswet earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Drama in 2016 at the Juilliard School in New York City. While a first-year student at the University of Pennsylvania, he applied to Juilliard and was accepted.

Corenswet married his wife in New Orleans in March 2023.

Early Career:

Corenswet was a child actress who appeared in many professional theatre productions. These included the Arden Theatre’s production of Arthur Miller’s All My Sons (2002), the Philadelphia Shakespeare Festival’s production of Macbeth (2003), the Walnut St Theatre’s production of La Vie En Bleu (2003), and The Forgiving Harvest (2004) by the People’s Light and Theatre Company.

Corenswet was the writer and actor of Following Chase, directed by Greg Koorhan. Next, he co-wrote and produced a sketch comedy web series called Moe & Jerryweather, which ran for two seasons from 2014 to 2016.

Director Rob Reiner cast Corenswet as the co-lead of his television series The Tap in 2016. The Tap is set in 1969 at Yale College.
Corenswet portrayed a college student. USA Network had ordered the pilot, filmed in 2017, but did not pick up the show.

Corenswet played Michael Lawson in Affairs of State, an exciting political thriller. This was his first role since graduating from
Juilliard. Thora Birch and Mimi Rogers also star in the film, which the Los Angeles Times called “well-acted.”

Corenswet appeared as a guest star in House of Cards and Elementary.

Rising Profile:

Netflix’s The Politician, 2019-2020, he played River Barkley as Payton Hobart’s (Ben Platt) lover and political rival in high school. Vanity Fair called River a “wealthy student who is straight-A.”

Corenswet played Jack Castello, a Netflix-exclusive series that explores the post-World War II Los Angeles film industry. The project brought him back together with Ryan Murphy, Ian Brennan, and the makers of The Politician. Corenswet also served as executive producer for the show. Men’s Health magazine called Corenswet’s acting “inspiring.” IndieWire called Corenswet’s performance “another stellar turn by David Corenswet.”

Corenswet starred in We Own This City, a fact-based HBO limited series from The Wire writers and executive producer David Simon, in 2022. McDougall is a veteran investigator who helped uncover years of corruption at the Gun Trace Task Force in Baltimore in 2016.

David Corenswet starred alongside Jake in Look Both Ways – a Netflix Original romantic comedy-drama movie from 2022.

Corenswet starred in Pearl, an A24 feature film directed by TiWest, which was released by A24 to theaters in 2022. Corenswet played The Projectionist.

David Corenswet stars alongside Lucy Boynton and Justin H. Min in The Greatest Hits. Ned Benson wrote, produced, and directed the film, which was described as “a musical time travel romance” and premiered in Austin, Texas on March 8-16, 2024, at SXSW. On April 5, the film was released in limited numbers, and it started streaming online on April 12. (On Hulu, Star+, Disney+, in Latin America and the US).

Upcoming Roles:

Corenswet will join Natalie Portman and Moses Ingram in the upcoming Apple TV+ show Lady in the Lake, directed by Alma Har’el. The series is finished and will premiere in 2024.

Corenswet is the lead male in The Answers (FX’s adaptation) of Catherine Lacey’s novel with the same title, which was filmed by 20th Television in January 2023. Christopher Skye is the charismatic but troubled movie star who takes part in a futuristic, enigmatic dating experiment.

Corenswet will be cast as Twisters in May 2023. Universal Pictures will release the film in America and Warner Bros. Pictures worldwide on July 19th, 2024.

James Gunn, the director of the DC Universe film Superman (due to release in July 2025), cast Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman. DC Studios will release the film in June 2023. The filming began on February 29th, 2024. It is expected to hit theaters on July 11th, 2025.
